How to Set Up a Minecraft Server

Want to make a Minecraft server to play with your circle but get a headache looking at all the complicated settings? Relax, here we'll go over how to set up a server that's super easy, just a quick setup and you're ready to play!

1. Pick a Suitable Package​

Make sure you already have a server at Raznar Hosting, okay. Pick the package that matches the number of friends you want to play with so the server doesn't struggle while you're playing.

  • General 4-6G Package: Perfect for playing with a small circle (5-10 people).
  • General 8-12G Package: If everyone in your class or your hangout crew wants to join (10-30 people).
  • General 16G+ Package: For those who want to play a bit more seriously or use lots of extra plugins.

2. Start Creating the Server (In the Raznar Panel)​

We'll use Paper for the server software. Why? Because it's the lightest and most anti-lag option for survival mode.

  1. Log in to the Raznar Console Panel.
  2. Click the "Create Server" button or select the server you've already bought.
  3. In the Software/Version section, choose "Paper" (just pick the latest version, for example 1.21.x).
  4. Click Install/Reinstall.
  5. Wait a moment until the process finishes, then turn on the server by clicking the Start button.

Tip: The first time it starts, you'll usually be asked to agree to the EULA rules. Just click the "I Accept" button in the console, or open the eula.txt file in the file manager and change the text to true.

3. Must-Have Plugins to Make Playing Together More Fun!​

Playing vanilla only can sometimes get boring. Add these plugins to make playing together even more fun. Installing them is easy, just download the .jar file and put it in the plugins folder in the File Manager.

🏠 EssentialsX​

This is the lifeblood of a survival server. It lets you and your friends use the /sethome command to set a point (so you don't get lost), /tpa (teleport to a friend), or /back after you die falling into lava. For more details, check the official EssentialsX plugin wiki

📱 GeyserMC + Floodgate (For Cross-play with MCPE or Bedrock)​

Got a friend who plays on their phone (MCPE) while you play on PC (Java)? You definitely need this! Just drop Geyser-Spigot and Floodgate into the plugins folder, restart the server, and your friend on mobile can join the same world. For more details, check the tutorial Setup GeyserMC

🎨 SkinsRestorer​

If your server allows cracked players to join, their skins usually all show up as Steve or Alex. Use this plugin so their skins go back to normal, or you can even change your skin to anyone with the /skin [name] command.

🪑 GSit​

So you can actually hang out in-game. You can sit on stairs, lie down, or even sit on your friend's shoulder. Just type the command /sit, /lay, or /crawl.

🔒 LibreLogin (mandatory if online mode is off)​

If your server allows cracked players to join, it's really mandatory to install a security plugin so your gameplay progress isn't hijacked by someone else. For more details, check the Page Security

4. Basic Configuration (No Hassle)​

Now let's head over to the server.properties file in the File Manager. You don't need to worry about looking at the code, just change the important parts:

  • Change the Server Name: Find the line motd=A Minecraft Server. Just change it to your hangout server's name, for example: motd=Our Hangout Server.
  • Player Limit: Find max-players=20. Just adjust how many people can join the server.
  • Difficulty: Find difficulty=normal. Want it easy? Change to easy. Want a challenge? Change to hard.
  • Allowing Cracked Players (Important!): Find the line online-mode=true. If some of your friends play using TLauncher and the like, this really must be changed to online-mode=false. (Note: If you change it to false, it's better to install the LibreLogin or AuthMe plugin on the server so your friends' accounts don't get hijacked by troublemakers).
  • Keep Inventory: To enable keepinv, you have to become an admin or operator in-game first, then run the command /gamerule keepInventory true in all worlds (overworld, nether, and the end).

5. How to Become an Admin (Operator)​

As the one who owns the server, you'll definitely need admin access to change gamemodes, teleport people, and more. Here's how:

  1. Open the Console tab in the Raznar panel.
  2. Type op YourName (remember, when typing in the console you don't need the slash /).
    • Example: op Dream
  3. Done! Now you can freely use admin commands inside the game.

6. Frequently Occurring Problems (FAQ)​

"Why can't my friend get in?" Check again whether the IP is correct. Also, make sure about the online-mode thing from earlier. If your friend uses a crack but the server is still online-mode=true, they'll definitely be rejected.

"The server is lagging, bro!" Try opening the server.properties file, find view-distance, and lower the number (for example from 10 to 6 or 8). This helps quite a bit in reducing server load.

"How do I add a downloaded map/world?" Turn off the server first -> delete the world, world_nether, and world_the_end folders -> Upload your new map folder -> Rename the folder to world -> Turn the server back on. (Make sure to Back up first before doing anything)
